Stick welding, or Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), is an electric arc process that uses a coated metal rod as a filler. These rods, available in various sizes, require the proper flux-cored wire for strong welds tailored to specific needs. It can be performed in different environments and is commonly used for steel and iron, employing DC or reverse-polarity current, like MIG welding. An arc forms between the rod and the metal, melting both to produce weld beads. The heat vaporises some flux, generating a shielding gas that stabilises the arc. Unlike MIG, it does not require external gas because it uses a flux-based process. We offer Miller Stick Welders and Lincoln Electric Stick Welders available for rental and purchase.
